Penguin Popular Classics

I found out who designed the penguin popular classics cover I was rude about a few post ago. It was David Pearson and apparently he's a bit of a bit shot. I've had a look around his website and, to be fair, he has some amazing work. A lot of gorgeous and really clever book covers like the ones below. Still, it doesn't mean I like that green.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Typography

Penguin Book Covers

There is the kind of obvious route when designing a Penguin/Puffin book cover, to do something terribly modernist and simple. I think it is a bit cliched so I don't really want to go down this route, even though some of the designs are brilliant.

Puffin Book Cover - Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

My next brief is going to be the Puffin Book Cover design competition for Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. As with most of my project I rocked out on google images to see what else was out there.

To be honest I didn't find anything particulary interesting:

I like this one, Nice and simple with lovely typography

This is the current penguin classics one they have on Amazon. Its pretty boring and not all that child friendly.

This is the cover from 1898 edition of the book.

Puffin popular classics cover. Why on earth did they choose that green?

A bit of thought has gone into this one
